Bhagavad Gita BG 9.6

Chapter 9, Verse 6 — Meaning, Translation & Explanation

यथाकाशस्थितो नित्यं वायुः सर्वत्रगो महान् । तथा सर्वाणि भूतानि मत्स्थानीत्युपधारय ॥

yatha akasha-sthito nityam vayuh sarvatra-go mahan tatha sarvani bhutani mat-sthani ity upadharaya

Meaning

As the great wind, ever-moving everywhere, eternally dwells in space — so know that all beings dwell in Me.

Understanding

The great simile resolving the paradox: the mighty (mahan) wind (vayu), sarvatra-gah (moving everywhere), nityam (eternally) — akasha-sthita (dwells in space). The wind is in space (space is its container) — but space is not IN the wind. Space is unaffected by the wind, even as the wind moves through every part of it. Similarly: all beings (sarvani bhutani) mat-sthani — dwell in Me — but I am not confined to or affected by any being. The Absolute is like space; all creation is like the wind within it.
