Bhagavad Gita BG 9.34

Chapter 9, Verse 34 — Meaning, Translation & Explanation

मन्मना भव मद्भक्तो मद्याजी मां नमस्कुरु । मामेवैष्यसि युक्त्वैवं आत्मानं मत्परायणः ॥

man-mana bhava mad-bhakto mad-yaji mam namaskuru mam evaishy asi yuktvaivam atmanam mat-parayanah

Meaning

Be My-minded, be My devotee, be My worshipper, bow to Me. Uniting the self in this way, with Me as the supreme goal — you shall come to Me alone.

Understanding

The closing verse of Chapter 9 — a four-fold personal directive: (1) Man-mana (be My-minded — let the mind be Mine), (2) mad-bhakta (be My devotee — let devotion be Mine), (3) mad-yaji (be My worshipper — let worship be Mine), (4) mam namaskuru (bow to Me — let surrender be Mine). Yuktva evam atmanam (uniting the self in this way). Mat-parayanah (with Me as the supreme goal — parayana = supreme refuge, ultimate aim). The result: mam eva eshyasi — you shall come to Me ALONE. Chapter 9's supreme promise.
