Bhagavad Gita BG 9.29

Chapter 9, Verse 29 — Meaning, Translation & Explanation

Meaning

I am equal to all beings — none is hateful to Me, none is dear. But those who worship Me with devotion — they are in Me, and I am in them.

Understanding

Equanimity AND intimate presence — together. Samo aham sarva-bhutesu (I am equal/the same toward all beings — no partiality, no preference). Na me dveshyo na priyah (none is hateful to Me, none is dear — no favorites, no enemies). Yet — ye bhajanti mam bhaktya (those who worship Me with bhakti — not a category or qualification, but a description of relationship). Mayi te (they are in Me). Teshu capy aham (and I also am in them). The remarkable thing: Krishna's equality does not make him distant. The devotee who chooses relationship with the Supreme through bhakti enters a mutual indwelling — the devotee lives in Krishna and Krishna lives in the devotee. Equality is the ground; mutual indwelling is the fruit of bhakti.
