Bhagavad Gita BG 9.10

Chapter 9, Verse 10 — Meaning, Translation & Explanation

मयाध्यक्षेण प्रकृतिः सूयते सचराचरम् । हेतुनानेन कौन्तेय जगद्विपरिवर्तते ॥

mayAdhyakshena prakrtih suyate sacaracaram hetuna anena kaunteya jagad viparivartate

Meaning

Under My supervision (adhyaksha), Prakriti produces the moving and unmoving. By this cause, O Kaunteya, the world revolves.

Understanding

The mechanism of creation. Mayaadhyakshena (under My supervision — adhyaksha: overseeing, superintending; Krishna is the adhyaksha, the supervisor, not the direct doer). Prakrtih suyate (Prakriti produces/brings forth — suyate from the root su, to produce, to project) — sacaracaram (the moving and the unmoving — all of creation: cara = moving beings, acara = unmoving, static things). Anena hetuna (by this cause — the cause being Krishna's supervisory presence). Jagad viparivartate (the world turns, revolves). Krishna is not the hands-on maker — he is the adhyaksha (the witnessing overseer) in whose presence Prakriti spontaneously creates. This preserves Krishna's non-involvement while explaining creation.
