अर्जुन उवाच । किं तद्ब्रह्म किमध्यात्मं किं कर्म पुरुषोत्तम । अधिभूतं च किं प्रोक्तं अधिदैवं किमुच्यते ॥

Meaning

Arjuna said: What is that Brahman? What is Adhyatma? What is Karma, O Purushottama? What is declared to be Adhibhuta? And what is said to be Adhidaiva?

Understanding

Arjuna's two-verse string of seven questions, prompted by Krishna's closing words of Chapter 7. The questions span the full spectrum of cosmic and personal reality: Brahman (the ultimate absolute), Adhyatma (the individual-self principle), Karma (the law of action and consequence), Adhibhuta (the domain of material existence), Adhidaiva (the domain of the divine intelligences), Adhiyajna (the sacrifice/cosmic law principle), and finally — what does the self-mastered person know at the moment of death?
