Bhagavad Gita BG 7.27
Chapter 7, Verse 27 — Meaning, Translation & Explanation
इच्छाद्वेषसमुत्थेन द्वन्द्वमोहेन भारत । सर्वभूतानि सम्मोहं सर्गे यान्ति परन्तप ॥
iccha-dvesha-samutthena dvandva-mohena bharata sarva-bhutani sammohah sarge yanti parantapa
Meaning
O Bharata, at birth all beings fall into delusion — born of the dvandvas (pairs of opposites) arising from desire and aversion, O Scorcher of Foes.
Understanding
The mechanism of universal delusion at the beginning of each life: dvandva-moha (the delusion of the pairs of opposites — pleasant/unpleasant, mine/not-mine, honor/dishonor etc.) arising from iccha-dvesha (desire and aversion — the fundamental polarity of the psyche). From the moment of birth (sarge — at creation/birth), sarvabhutani (all beings) go into sammohana (complete delusion). This is not a moral failure but the structural condition of embodied existence. The dvandvas are the automatic glasses through which embodied life is experienced.
