Bhagavad Gita BG 7.14
Chapter 7, Verse 14 — Meaning, Translation & Explanation
दैवी ह्येषा गुणमयी मम माया दुरत्यया । मामेव ये प्रपद्यन्ते मायामेतां तरन्ति ते ॥
daivi hy esha guna-mayi mama maya duratyaya mam eva ye prapadyante mayam etam taranti te
Meaning
For this divine Maya of Mine, made of the gunas, is very difficult to transcend. Those who surrender to Me alone — they cross beyond this Maya.
Understanding
The nature of Maya: daivi (divine — not merely illusion but the divine power itself), guna-mayi (made of the gunas — the three-quality fabric of existence), mama (Mine — Krishna's own power), duratyaya (very difficult to cross, nearly impossible to transcend by one's own effort). How to cross? Mam eva ye prapadyante — those who surrender (prapadyante — prostrate, completely surrender) to Me alone. Etam mayam taranti te — they cross (tara — they swim across) this maya. The impossible becomes possible through surrender to the source.
