Bhagavad Gita BG 7.10

Chapter 7, Verse 10 — Meaning, Translation & Explanation

बीजं मां सर्वभूतानां विद्धि पार्थ सनातनम् । बुद्धिर्बुद्धिमतामस्मि तेजस्तेजस्विनामहम् ॥

bijam mam sarva-bhutanam viddhi partha sanatanam buddhir buddhimatam asmi tejas tejasvinam aham

Meaning

Know Me as the eternal seed of all beings, O Partha. I am the intelligence of the intelligent, the brilliance of the brilliant.

Understanding

Bija — seed, source, origin. Krishna is the sanatanam bija (eternal seed) of sarva-bhutanam (all beings). Not just the first cause in time but the eternal, ever-present seed from which every being arises and continues to draw existence. And further: buddhir buddhimatam — the INTELLIGENCE of the intelligent (not intelligence itself, but the intelligence IN the intelligent — the very quality that makes an intelligent person intelligent). Tejas tejasvinam — the brilliance of the brilliant. The divine is the quality-of-the-quality.
