Bhagavad Gita BG 7.1

Chapter 7, Verse 1 — Meaning, Translation & Explanation

श्रीभगवानुवाच । मय्यासक्तमनाः पार्थ योगं युञ्जन्मदाश्रयः । असंशयं समग्रं मां यथा ज्ञास्यसि तच्छृणु ॥

shri bhagavan uvaca mayy asakta-manah partha yogam yunjan mad-ashrayah asamshayam samagram mam yatha jnasyasi tac chrnu

Meaning

The Blessed Lord said: O Partha, hear how you shall know Me completely and without doubt — with mind attached to Me, practicing yoga, taking refuge in Me.

Understanding

The opening of the jnana-vijnana teaching. Three conditions for complete (samagram), doubt-free (asamshayam) knowledge of Krishna: (1) mayi asakta-manah — with mind ATTACHED (asakta — here, positive attachment) to Me, (2) yogam yunjan — practicing yoga, (3) mad-ashraya — taking Me as refuge (not the world). The word samagram is critical — complete, whole. Not partial knowledge. This chapter promises the most complete self-revelation of the Divine in the entire Gita.
