Bhagavad Gita BG 6.37

Chapter 6, Verse 37 — Meaning, Translation & Explanation

अर्जुन उवाच । अयतिः श्रद्धयोपेतो योगाच्चलितमानसः । अप्राप्य योगसंसिद्धिं कां गतिं कृष्ण गच्छति ॥

arjuna uvaca ayatih shraddha-yopeto yogac calita-manasah aprapya yoga-samsiddhim kam gatim krishna gacchati

Meaning

Arjuna said: One who has shraddha but lacks effort, whose mind has slipped away from yoga, having not attained perfection in yoga — what end does such a one reach, O Krishna?

Understanding

Arjuna's next crucial question — the fate of the 'fallen yogi.' Ayatih (one who lacks effort, who does not strive hard enough) shraddha-yopeta (but who has shraddha — faith, seriousness, genuine aspiration). Yogat calita-manasah (whose mind has slipped/wandered from yoga). Aprapya yoga-samsiddhim (without having attained perfection in yoga). What is their fate? This is the question of everyone who has tried to walk the path but not reached the end in this lifetime.
