Bhagavad Gita BG 6.22

Chapter 6, Verse 22 — Meaning, Translation & Explanation

यं लब्ध्वा चापरं लाभं मन्यते नाधिकं ततः । यस्मिन्स्थितो न दुःखेन गुरुणापि विचाल्यते ॥

yam labdhva caparam labham manyate nadhikam tatah yasmin sthito na duhkhena gurunApi vicalyate

Meaning

Having gained which, no other gain is considered greater. Established in which, one is not shaken even by the heaviest suffering.

Understanding

Continuing from verses 20-21, still describing samadhi. First characteristic: yam labdhva (having gained which), no other labha (gain, acquisition) is considered adhika (greater). This is the gain beyond which there is nothing more to want. Second: yasmin sthita (established in which), one is na vicalyate (not shaken) even by gurunA duhkhena (the heaviest, gravest suffering). This is not indifference but the stability of one who has found a ground that suffering cannot undermine.
