Bhagavad Gita BG 6.15
Chapter 6, Verse 15 — Meaning, Translation & Explanation
युञ्जन्नेवं सदात्मानं योगी नियतमानसः । शान्तिं निर्वाणपरमां मत्संस्थामधिगच्छति ॥
yunjan evam sada atmanam yogi niyata-manasah shantim nirvana-paramam mat-samsthAm adhigacchati
Meaning
Ever yoking the self in this way, the yogi of restrained mind attains the supreme peace of nirvana — which abides in Me.
Understanding
The fruit of sustained practice: shanti nirvana-paramam — peace whose supreme is nirvana (cessation of ego-agitation in Brahman). Note 'mat-samstha' — 'which abides in Me.' This is not the Buddhist nirvana of blank extinction but the Gita's nirvana-in-Brahman: the extinguishing of ego's turbulence in the vast expanse of the Supreme. The yogi of niyata-manas (restrained, disciplined mind) attains this by ever (sada) yoking (yunjan) the self.
