Bhagavad Gita BG 6.14

Chapter 6, Verse 14 — Meaning, Translation & Explanation

प्रशान्तात्मा विगतभीर् ब्रह्मचारिव्रते स्थितः । मनः संयम्य मच्चित्तो युक्त आसीत मत्परः ॥

prashantAtma vigata-bhir brahmacarivrate sthitah manah samyamya mac-citto yukta asita mat-parah

Meaning

With serene mind, fearless, established in the vow of brahmacarya — controlling the mind, with thought fixed on Me — let one sit united, with Me as the supreme goal.

Understanding

The inner qualities for meditation: prashantAtma (serene mind — not forced stillness but genuine calm), vigata-bhih (fearless — fear agitates the mind; freedom from fear is prerequisite), brahmacarivrate sthitah (established in the vow of brahmacarya — energy conserved and directed inward). Manah samyamya (with mind controlled). And the final dual directive: mac-citto (thought fixed on Me — Krishna/the Supreme) and mat-parah (with Me as the supreme goal). Meditation has a direction — the Supreme — not just blank emptiness.
