Bhagavad Gita BG 5.6

Chapter 5, Verse 6 — Meaning, Translation & Explanation

संन्यासस्तु महाबाहो दुःखमाप्तुमयोगतः । योगयुक्तो मुनिर्ब्रह्म नचिरेणाधिगच्छति ॥

sannyasas tu mahabaho duhkham aptum ayogatah yoga-yukto munir brahma nacirenadhi gacchati

Meaning

But renunciation without yoga is difficult to attain, O mighty-armed. The sage who is united in yoga reaches Brahman swiftly.

Understanding

The practical warning: outer renunciation without the inner discipline of yoga is duhkham aptum — painful and difficult to maintain. But the muni who is yoga-yukta (united with yoga) reaches Brahman nacirena — swiftly. The karma yogi, still engaged in the world but inwardly free, is better positioned than the formal renunciant lacking inner mastery.
