Bhagavad Gita BG 5.28
Chapter 5, Verse 28 — Meaning, Translation & Explanation
यतेन्द्रियमनोबुद्धिः मुनिर्मोक्षपरायणः । विगतेच्छाभयक्रोधो यः सदा मुक्त एव सः ॥
yatendriya-mano-buddhih munir moksha-parayanah vigateccha-bhaya-krodhah yah sada mukta eva sah
Meaning
The sage with senses, mind, and intellect controlled, whose supreme goal is liberation, free from desire, fear, and anger — who is forever free, that one is free.
Understanding
Completing the meditation from verse 27: the muni (sage) who controls yatendriya-mano-buddhi (senses, mind, AND intellect — the full inner instrument) and is moksha-parayana (with liberation as the supreme goal). Free of iccha (desire), bhaya (fear), and krodha (anger). Such a one is sada muktah — ALWAYS free, forever liberated. Not 'becomes free at death' but sada (always), as a present reality. This is jivanmukti — liberation while living.
