Bhagavad Gita BG 5.19

Chapter 5, Verse 19 — Meaning, Translation & Explanation

इहैव तैर्जितः सर्गो येषां साम्ये स्थितं मनः । निर्दोषं हि समं ब्रह्म तस्माद् ब्रह्मणि ते स्थिताः ॥

ihaiva tair jitah sargo yesham samye sthitam manah nirdosham hi samam brahma tasmad brahmani te sthitah

Meaning

Right here (in this life) creation is conquered by those whose mind is established in equanimity. Brahman is flawless and equal — therefore they are established in Brahman.

Understanding

The conquest of sarga (creation, the round of rebirth) happens ihaiva — right here, in this life. For whom? For those yesham samye sthitam manah — whose mind is sthita (established, stable) in samya (equanimity, equal-mindedness). Why does equanimity = Brahman-establishment? Because nirdosham hi samam brahma — Brahman is flawless and utterly equal. The mind that abides in equanimity participates in Brahman's own nature.
