Bhagavad Gita BG 4.30

Chapter 4, Verse 30 — Meaning, Translation & Explanation

अपरे नियताहाराः प्राणान्प्राणेषु जुह्वति । सर्वेऽप्येते यज्ञविदो यज्ञक्षपितकल्मषाः ॥

apare niyataharan pranan praneshu juhvati sarve 'py ete yajna-vido yajna-kshapita-kalmashash

Meaning

Others, with regulated food intake, offer the vital breaths into vital breaths. All of these are knowers of yajna, their impurities destroyed by yajna.

Understanding

Yet another yajna: niyatahara (regulated eating — restraining the food intake as offering). And pranan praneshu juhvati — offering vital breaths into vital breaths (a subtle internal practice of merging all the pranas into the central prana). Then the inclusive summary: sarve api ete (all of these people — from the ritual-fire worshipper to the pranayama practitioner to the regulated eater) are yajna-vidah (knowers of yajna — true understanders of sacrifice). Yajna-kshapita-kalmashash — their impurities are destroyed (kshapita — wasted away, consumed) by their yajna.
