Bhagavad Gita BG 4.26
Chapter 4, Verse 26 — Meaning, Translation & Explanation
श्रोत्रादीनीन्द्रियाण्यन्ये संयमाग्निषु जुह्वति । शब्दादीन्विषयानन्ये इन्द्रियाग्निषु जुह्वति ॥
shrotradinin driyany anye samyamagni shu juhvati shabdadin vishayan anye indriyagni shu juhvati
Meaning
Some offer the senses (hearing and others) into the fires of restraint; others offer the sense-objects (sound and others) into the fires of the senses.
Understanding
Two more forms of inner yajna: (1) Offering the senses (indriyani — hearing/shrota and others) into the fire of samyama (restraint, control) — the yogi restrains the outward pull of the senses, offering them back into control. (2) The inverse: offering the sense-objects (vishayan — sound/shabda and others) into the fires of the senses — allowing full sensory experience, but with awareness as the receiving fire that consumes without attachment. Both approaches are valid paths.
