Bhagavad Gita BG 4.10
Chapter 4, Verse 10 — Meaning, Translation & Explanation
वीतरागभयक्रोधा मन्मया मामुपाश्रिताः । बहवो ज्ञानतपसा पूता मद्भावमागताः ॥
vita-raga-bhaya-krodhah man-maya mam upasritah bahavo jnana-tapasa puta mad-bhavam agatah
Meaning
Freed from attachment, fear, and anger, absorbed in Me, taking refuge in Me — many have been purified by the austerity of knowledge and have attained My state.
Understanding
This teaching has worked before — many (bahavah) have successfully followed this path. The three inner freedoms: vita-raga (freed from craving/attachment), vita-bhaya (freed from fear), vita-krodha (freed from anger). The triple inner freedom leads to man-maya (being filled with Me, absorbed in the divine) and mam upasrita (taking refuge in Me). The means: jnana-tapas (the austerity/discipline of knowledge — the arduous inner work of discrimination and Self-inquiry). The result: mad-bhava (My state of being — liberation in the divine).
