Bhagavad Gita BG 3.31
Chapter 3, Verse 31 — Meaning, Translation & Explanation
ये मे मतमिदं नित्यमनुतिष्ठन्ति मानवाः । श्रद्धावन्तोऽनसूयन्तो मुच्यन्ते तेऽपि कर्मभिः ॥ ३१ ॥
ye me matam idaṃ nityam anutiṣṭhanti mānavāḥ śraddhāvanto 'nasūyanto mucyante te 'pi karmabhiḥ
Meaning
Those people who always follow this teaching of Mine, with faith (śraddhā) and without envy (anasūyā) — they too are freed from the bondage of karma.
Understanding
After the personal instruction to Arjuna, Krishna broadens the promise to anyone who follows this teaching. Two qualities are required: śraddhā (faith — not blind belief but a committed, open receptivity to truth) and anasūyā (without envy — not resenting the teaching or the teacher). The word 'api' (too / even they) indicates that this liberation is accessible not just to great warriors but to ordinary people who apply this teaching sincerely. 'Nityam' (always) again emphasises continuity — this is not a one-time observance but a sustained way of living. Nityam anutiṣṭhanti — 'always practising' — is the mark of genuine application.
