Bhagavad Gita BG 2.72
Chapter 2, Verse 72 — Meaning, Translation & Explanation
एषा ब्राह्मी स्थितिः पार्थ नैनां प्राप्य विमुह्यति । स्थित्वास्यामन्तकालेऽपि ब्रह्मनिर्वाणमृच्छति ॥ ७२ ॥
eṣā brāhmī sthitiḥ pārtha naināṃ prāpya vimuhyati sthitvāsyām anta-kāle 'pi brahma-nirvāṇam ṛcchati
Meaning
This is the Brahmic state, O Partha. Having attained it, one is not deluded again. Established in it even at the hour of death, one attains brahma-nirvana, merging in Brahman.
Understanding
The final verse of Chapter 2. 'Brāhmī sthitiḥ' — the divine state, the state of Brahman — is what has been described throughout the Sthitaprajna section. 'Naināṃ prāpya vimuhyati' — having attained this, one is no longer deluded. And if one is established in this at the time of death ('anta-kāle') — 'brahma-nirvāṇam ṛcchati' — one attains the peace of Brahman (nirvāṇa = extinction of the separate self in the divine). The chapter ends where liberation begins: in the steady, undisturbed state of one who knows the self.
