Bhagavad Gita BG 2.53

Chapter 2, Verse 53 — Meaning, Translation & Explanation

श्रुतिविप्रतिपन्ना ते यदा स्थास्यति निश्चला । समाधावचला बुद्धिस्तदा योगमवाप्स्यसि ॥ ५३ ॥

śruti-vipratipannā te yadā sthāsyati niścalā samādhāv acalā buddhis tadā yogam avāpsyasi

Meaning

When your mind is no longer disturbed by the flowery language of the Vedas, and when it remains fixed in the trance of self-realisation, then you will have attained the divine consciousness.

Understanding

The culmination of Buddhi Yoga in practice. 'Śruti-vipratipannā' — previously bewildered/pulled in different directions by Vedic injunctions (the many prescriptions of the karma-kāṇḍa). When the intelligence becomes 'niścalā' (unmoved, steady) and 'acalā' (unshakeable) in 'samādhi' (deep meditative absorption in the self) — then 'yogam avāpsyasi' — you will have attained Yoga. This is the goal: steady, unshakeable absorption in the true self.
