Bhagavad Gita BG 2.51

Chapter 2, Verse 51 — Meaning, Translation & Explanation

कर्मजं बुद्धियुक्ता हि फलं त्यक्त्वा मनीषिणः । जन्मबन्धविनिर्मुक्ताः पदं गच्छन्त्यनामयम् ॥ ५१ ॥

karma-jaṃ buddhi-yuktā hi phalaṃ tyaktvā manīṣiṇaḥ janma-bandha-vinirmuktāḥ padaṃ gacchanty anāmayam

Meaning

The wise, united with wisdom, give up the fruits born of action. Freed from the bondage of birth, they reach the state beyond all suffering.

Understanding

The promise of Buddhi Yoga fully stated: those who are 'buddhi-yukta' (united with wisdom), who are 'manīṣiṇaḥ' (the wise, the sages of the mind), who have 'tyaktvā phalam' (abandoned the fruits of their karma) become 'janma-bandha-vinirmuktāḥ' — completely freed from the bondage of birth (janma-bandha). They reach 'padaṃ anāmayam' — the state beyond all suffering, the state free from disease and distress. This is liberation — achieved through wise, detached action.
