Bhagavad Gita BG 2.25

Chapter 2, Verse 25 — Meaning, Translation & Explanation

अव्यक्तोऽयमचिन्त्योऽयमविकार्योऽयमुच्यते । तस्मादेवं विदित्वैनं नानुशोचितुमर्हसि ॥ २५ ॥

avyakto 'yam acintyo 'yam avikāryo 'yam ucyate tasmād evaṃ viditvainaṃ nānuśocitum arhasi

Meaning

It is said that the soul is invisible, inconceivable, and immutable. Knowing this, you should not grieve for the body.

Understanding

Three more attributes: 'avyakta' (unmanifest / beyond perception), 'acintya' (inconceivable / beyond thought), and 'avikārya' (immutable / without transformation). The soul cannot be seen, cannot be thought about in ordinary categories, and never changes. The conclusion: 'tasmāt' — therefore — knowing this, you should not grieve. The instruction is direct: grief is the result of not knowing the soul's nature. Knowledge removes grief.
