nirmana-moha jita-sanga-dosha adhyatma-nitya vinivrtta-kamah dvandvair vimuktah sukha-duhkha-samjnaih gacchanty amudha padam avyayam tat

Meaning

Free from pride and delusion, with the evil of attachment conquered, ever dwelling in the Self, desires quenched, freed from the dualities known as pleasure and pain — the undeluded go to that imperishable place.

Understanding

The qualifications for reaching the supreme abode are given through a sequence of compound adjectives: (1) nirmana-moha (free from pride/honor-seeking and delusion — the ego-claims are released); (2) jita-sanga-dosha (having conquered the fault of attachment — asanga accomplished); (3) adhyatma-nitya (ever dwelling in the Self — constant inner orientation to the Atman); (4) vinivrtta-kamah (desires completely turned back/quenched — not suppressed but fulfilled through the Self); (5) dvandvair vimuktah sukha-duhkha-samjnaih (freed from the dualities named pleasure and pain). Such amudha (undeluded ones) gacchanti (go) to tat avyayam padam (that imperishable place). This verse is the qualifications list for entry into the supreme abode — it maps directly onto the entire Gita's sadhana.
