Bhagavad Gita BG 13.35

Chapter 13, Verse 35 — Meaning, Translation & Explanation

क्षेत्रक्षेत्रज्ञयोरेवं अन्तरं ज्ञानचक्षुषा । भूतप्रकृतिमोक्षं च ये विदुर्यान्ति ते परम् ॥

kshetra-kshetrajna-yor evam antaram jnana-cakshusa bhuta-prakrti-moksham ca ye vidur yanti te param

Meaning

Those who, with the eye of knowledge (jnana-cakshus), perceive the distinction between the Field and the Knower of the Field, and the liberation of beings from Prakriti — they go to the Supreme.

Understanding

The magnificent closing verse of Ch13: kshetra-kshetrajna-yor antaram jnana-cakshusa (perceiving the distinction between field and Knower with the eye of knowledge — jnana-cakshus, the eye of wisdom, not the physical eyes). Bhuta-prakrti-moksham ca (and the liberation of beings FROM Prakriti). Ye vidur yanti te param (those who know this go to the Supreme). The entire chapter distills into this: see the distinction (kshetra vs. kshetrajna), and see how beings are freed from Prakriti. These two visions — the distinction and the liberation — constitute the liberating knowledge of Ch13. The 'eye of knowledge' is the understanding cultivated through the entire chapter.
