Bhagavad Gita BG 13.29

Chapter 13, Verse 29 — Meaning, Translation & Explanation

समं पश्यन्हि सर्वत्र समवस्थितमीश्वरम् । न हिनस्त्यात्मनात्मानं ततो याति परां गतिम् ॥

samam pashyan hi sarvatra samavasthitam ishvaram na hinasty atmana atmanam tato yati param gatim

Meaning

Seeing the same Lord established equally everywhere — one does not harm the Self by the Self; then one goes to the supreme goal.

Understanding

The vision of the liberated: samam pashyan sarvatra samavasthitam ishvaram (seeing the same Ishvara equally present in every being and place — not more divine in some, less in others). Na hinasty atmana atmanam (one does not harm the Self by the Self — the famous teaching: self-harm comes from ignorance; when you see the Divine everywhere you cannot harm anything without knowing you harm the Self). Tato yati param gatim (from this seeing, one goes to the supreme goal). The equal-vision (sama-darshana) is simultaneously the means and the result: one who sees equally, lives nonviolently, and naturally attains the Supreme.
