Bhagavad Gita BG 13.27

Chapter 13, Verse 27 — Meaning, Translation & Explanation

यावत्सञ्जायते किञ्चित् सत्त्वं स्थावरजङ्गमम् । क्षेत्रक्षेत्रज्ञसंयोगात् तद्विद्धि भरतर्षभ ॥

yavat sanjayate kincit sattvam sthavara-jangamam kshetra-kshetrajna-samyogat tad viddhi bharatarshabha

Meaning

Whatever being comes into existence, moving or unmoving, know that it arises from the union of the field and the knower of the field, O best of the Bharatas.

Understanding

Krishna now states how every being comes to be. Whatever is born, whether it stands still (sthavara) like plants and mountains or moves (jangama) like creatures, arises from the samyoga, the union, of kshetra, the field of matter, and kshetrajna, the knower. Neither one alone makes a living being. The verses that follow show how to see this union rightly.
