Bhagavad Gita BG 12.19

Chapter 12, Verse 19 — Meaning, Translation & Explanation

तुल्यनिन्दास्तुतिर्मौनी सन्तुष्टो येन केन चित् । अनिकेतः स्थिरमतिर् भक्तिमान्मे प्रियो नरः ॥

tulya-ninda-stutir mauni santushto yena kena cit aniketah sthira-matir bhakti-man me priyo narah

Meaning

Equal toward blame and praise, silent, content with anything, without fixed home, of steady mind — a person devoted to Me is dear to Me.

Understanding

The concluding verse in this litany of qualities: tulya-ninda-stutih (equal toward blame/censure and praise — not elated by praise, not deflated by blame). Mauni (the silent one — inner silence, not compulsive speech). Santushto yena kena cit (content with whatever comes — yena kena cit = with this or that, with anything). Aniketah (without fixed home — nimble, unattached to a permanent base; the wandering monk quality). Sthira-matih (of steady mind — the same steadiness as the sthita-prajna of Ch2). Bhakti-man me priyo narah (a devoted person is dear to Me). Together these form the portrait of the fully liberated devotee: inner equanimity (blame=praise), inner silence, contentment without conditions, outer nimbleness, inner stability.
