Bhagavad Gita BG 11.51

Chapter 11, Verse 51 — Meaning, Translation & Explanation

अर्जुन उवाच दृष्ट्वेदं मानुषं रूपं तव सौम्यं जनार्दन । इदानीमस्मि संवृत्तः सचेताः प्रकृतिं गतः ॥

arjuna uvaca drshetvadam manusham rupam tava saumyam janardana idanim asmi samvrttah sacetah prakrtim gatah

Meaning

Arjuna said: Having seen this gentle human form of Yours, O Janardana, I am now composed in mind and restored to my own nature.

Understanding

Arjuna's response to seeing the two-armed human form restored. Drshtvam manusham rupam tava saumyam (having seen this gentle/soothing human form of yours — saumyam: gentle, pleasing, moon-like, calming). Janardana — addressing Krishna as 'Janardana' (one who agitates/moves people toward liberation — or one who protects). Idanim asmi samvrttah (now I have become composed/collected — samvrtta: gathered together, consolidated, restored). Sacetah (with proper mind, with consciousness restored). Prakrtim gatah (returned to my own nature — prakrti: one's own nature, one's normal state). The Vishvarupa experience temporarily took Arjuna beyond his natural functioning. The return of the human form is also the return of Arjuna's own centered nature.
