Bhagavad Gita BG 10.39

Chapter 10, Verse 39 — Meaning, Translation & Explanation

यच्चापि सर्वभूतानां बीजं तदहमर्जुन । न तदस्ति विना यत्स्यान्मया भूतं चराचरम् ॥

yac capi sarva-bhutanam bijam tad aham arjuna na tad asti vina yat syan maya bhutam caracharam

Meaning

And whatever is the seed of all beings — that I am, O Arjuna. There is no being, moving or unmoving, that could exist without Me.

Understanding

The summary of the entire vibhuti teaching: yac ca api sarva-bhutanam bijam (whatever is the seed of all beings) — tat aham (that am I). The comprehensive declaration: na tat asti (there is nothing) yat syan maya vina (that could exist without Me) — bhutam cara-acaram (any being, moving or stationary). Not just the excellent things in each category — NOTHING at all exists without the divine ground. The vibhuti catalog was specific examples of excellence; this verse says: even what wasn't mentioned, even the ordinary — nothing is without Me.
