Bhagavad Gita BG 10.32
Chapter 10, Verse 32 — Meaning, Translation & Explanation
सर्गाणामादिरन्तश्च मध्यं चैवाहमर्जुन । अध्यात्मविद्या विद्यानां वादः प्रवदतामहम् ॥
sarghanam adir antash ca madhyam caivam aham arjuna adhyatma-vidya vidyanam vadah pravadatam aham
Meaning
Among creations I am the beginning (adi), the end (anta), and the middle (madhya), O Arjuna; among sciences (vidya) I am the science of the Self (adhyatma-vidya); among debaters (pravadatam) I am the logic (vada).
Understanding
The most philosophical verse of the vibhuti list: (1) Sarghanam adih antash ca madhyam — among creations I am the beginning, middle, AND end. Not just origin but also sustenance and dissolution — the complete temporal span of existence is Krishna. This echoes the Brahman formula: I am the beginning and end of all that exists. (2) Vidyanam adhyatma-vidya — among all sciences and branches of knowledge, the supreme is adhyatma-vidya (the science of the Self/Atman). All other vidyas serve practical or intellectual purposes; adhyatma-vidya serves liberation. (3) Pravadatam vadah — among debaters (those who argue/discuss), I am vada — the honest, reasoned, truth-seeking method of discussion (as opposed to jalpa/vitanda which are mere victory-seeking). Truth-seeking debate as the vibhuti of discourse.
