Chapter 10, Verse 30 — Meaning, Translation & Explanation

प्रह्लादश्चास्मि दैत्यानां कालः कलयतामहम् । मृगाणां च मृगेन्द्रोऽहं वैनतेयश्च पक्षिणाम् ॥

prahladas casmi daityAnam kalah kalayatam aham mrganam ca mrgendro 'ham vainateyash ca pakshinam

Meaning

Among the Daityas (demons) I am Prahlada; among the reckoners I am Time; among the beasts I am the lion (king of beasts); among birds I am Garuda (Vainateya).

Understanding

Powerful vibhutis: (1) Prahlada among the Daityas — the great devotee-son of the demon Hiranyakashipu, who maintained unwavering devotion to Vishnu even under persecution. The divine appears even among the demonic in the form of the great devotee. (2) Kalah kalayatam — Time (Kala) among the reckoners/measurers — the supreme measurer. (3) Mrgendra (lion) among beasts — the king, the most powerful. (4) Vainateya (Garuda — son of Vinata) among birds — the divine eagle, the vehicle of Vishnu.
