Bhagavad Gita BG 10.27
Chapter 10, Verse 27 — Meaning, Translation & Explanation
उच्चैःश्रवसमश्वानां विद्धि माममृतोद्भवम् । ऐरावतं गजेन्द्राणां नराणां च नराधिपम् ॥
uccaihshravasam ashvanam viddhi mam amrutodbhavam airavantam gajenranam naranam ca naradhipam
Meaning
Among horses, know Me as Ucchaihshravas, born from the nectar (amruta) of the churning of the cosmic ocean; among the lords of elephants, Airavata; among men, the king.
Understanding
Three vibhutis from horse, elephant, and human domains, all connected to origins from the supreme: (1) Ashvanam Ucchaihshravah amrutodbhava — among horses, the divine Ucchaihshravas (the one who hears from above, with upraised ears), born from the churning of the cosmic ocean (Samudra Manthan) along with the nectar of immortality. A horse born from amruta — the supreme horse. (2) Gajenrānam Airavantam — among elephant lords, Airavata (also from the Samudra Manthan), the white elephant of Indra. (3) Naranam Naradhipam — among men, the naradhipa, the king. The king is the vibhuti in the human world — not because kings are morally superior but because the royal function concentrates protective, ordering power.
