Bhagavad Gita BG 10.22
Chapter 10, Verse 22 — Meaning, Translation & Explanation
वेदानां सामवेदोऽस्मि देवानामस्मि वासवः । इन्द्रियाणां मनश्चास्मि भूतानामस्मि चेतना ॥
vedanam sama-vedo 'smi devanam asmi vasavah indriyAnam manas c'asmi bhutanam asmi cetana
Meaning
Among the Vedas I am the Sama Veda; among the gods I am Indra (Vasava); among the senses I am the mind; among beings I am consciousness.
Understanding
Four vibhutis: (1) Sama Veda among Vedas — the Sama Veda is set to music, the most melodious, the most devotionally rich. (2) Vasava (Indra) among the gods — the king of the gods, the most powerful. (3) Manas among the indriyas — the mind, which coordinates and empowers all the senses, is the supreme organ. (4) Cetana among beings — consciousness itself, the most fundamental quality — the divine spark that makes a being alive rather than inert. The last is the most profound: the divine IS consciousness.
