Chapter 1, Verse 7 — Meaning, Translation & Explanation
अस्माकं तु विशिष्टा ये तान्निबोध द्विजोत्तम । नायका मम सैन्यस्य संज्ञार्थं तान्ब्रवीमि ते ॥ ७ ॥
asmākaṃ tu viśiṣṭā ye tān nibodha dvijottama nāyakā mama sainyasya saṃjñārthaṃ tān bravīmi te
Meaning
But know also, O best of Brahmins, the distinguished commanders on our side. For your information I name the leaders of my army.
Understanding
Having listed the Pandava champions, Duryodhana turns to his own side. He addresses Drona as 'dvijottama' (best of the twice-born / best of Brahmins), a respectful title. He now enumerates the Kaurava heroes so that Drona has a clear picture of their forces.
