Bhagavad Gita BG 1.19
Chapter 1, Verse 19 — Meaning, Translation & Explanation
स घोषो धार्तराष्ट्राणां हृदयानि व्यदारयत् । नभश्च पृथिवीं चैव तुमुलो व्यनुनादयन् ॥ १९ ॥
sa ghoṣo dhārtarāṣṭrāṇāṃ hṛdayāni vyadārayat nabhaś ca pṛthivīṃ caiva tumulo vyanunādayan
Meaning
The tumultuous sound rent the hearts of Dhritarashtra's sons, making both heaven and earth resound.
Understanding
This verse marks a psychological turning point. While the Kaurava instruments were many and loud, the Pandava response — led by the divine conches of Krishna and Arjuna — was so powerful it 'split the hearts' of the Kauravas. The word 'vyadārayat' (tore apart) is visceral. The sound fills both heaven and earth, suggesting that the cause of the Pandavas had both earthly and cosmic support.
